Tim Van Aelst
Who is Tim Van Aelst?
After studying History at the University of Antwerp and a brief stint in New York, Tim Van Aelst sought refuge in the world of Flemish television. There he started in 2004 as an errand boy on the set of Bart Peeters and Hugo Matthysen, but in no time managed to work his way up as creator and director of shows such as Trigger Happy and Tomtesterom, which he made together with Tom Waes. In 2009, he founded Shelter, a small production company that very consciously wanted to make comedy shows to make people laugh and in that way also provide connection. The first program was an instant hit: Benidorm Bastards!, sold to 65 countries, including the U.S. (Betty White's Off Their Rockers) where 12 million Americans watched old-timers use a hidden camera to prank young people. In no time more golden eggs were laid at Shelter: the sketch program What If? and the sitcom Safety First, which with the "Smos" gave Flanders a new hero. In 2018, Tim Van Aelst and his team scored a hat trick by winning a third International Emmy Award with Hoe Zal Ik Het Zeggen? With Studio Tarara, he launched his first drama series in the spring of 2019, and it too won multiple awards both at home and abroad. Just like Shelter's latest feat, the comedy-drama series Billie vs Benjamin. Stopping at a high point, Tim Van Aelst must have thought, when he and Sofie Peeters (business partner since 2017) opened the door of their production house in the summer of 2022. That the most awarded TV-makers in Flanders called it a day hit the media world like a bomb. Since then, Tim has focused on music as a weapon for a complete rejuvenation. In search of his full potential, he is currently facing all fears and is open to the unexpected. But that he has vast knowledge about creativity and story building goes without saying. Tim would like to share that knowledge and experience with the whole world. And he prefers to do this in a witty way, and if possible with music.
