Bruno Beeckman
Who is Bruno Beeckman?
Bruno Beeckman was born in Leuven in 1968. His passion for languages and international relations led him to start interpreting English and Russian, a skill that has served him since 1991. In 1993, he began his career as a journalist.
As a war and peace journalist, Bruno has reported from a wide range of conflict zones, including former Yugoslavia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Syria, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Ukraine and more. His experiences have shown him the harsh realities of war and human suffering, but have also fuelled his determination to keep informing the world.
Bruno has lived as a globetrotter in several places, including Russia (1991-2001), Switzerland (2001-2005), Greece (2005-2009), and since 2009 in Belgium. His nomadic existence has taught him to adapt to different cultures and circumstances, an experience shared by his family as well.
As a reporter and producer for the European Broadcasting Union, Bruno has reported on countless armed conflicts, experiencing both the positive and negative aspects of life as a nomad. Despite the challenges, Bruno remains a desperate optimist, determined to carry out his work with integrity and dedication. Although Bruno enjoys moments of rest in Belgium, he is always ready to pack his suitcase and leave for wherever current events call him. Bruno also gives his lectures in Russian.
