Yves Lampaert
Who is Yves Lampaert?
“I’m just a farmer’s son from Belgium.” In 2022, he rode his way into the history books when he claimed both the stage win and the yellow jersey in the opening stage of the Tour de France. But Lampie is more than that: he is a farmer’s son from West Flanders with a head for cobbles. And he still dreams of glory on the bumpy roads of Flanders and northern France. His list of achievements already includes Belgian road and time trial titles, two victories in Dwars door Vlaanderen, and a stage win in the Tour de France.
Yves Lampaert is one of the last true Flandriens, embodying the spirit of the legendary Briek Schotte. He rides with his heart on his sleeve. This character forms the basis of who Yves Lampaert really is as a rider. His story of building character, working hard, and achieving more as a team than alone is truly inspiring. He is authentic, unforgettable and straightforward, and has the necessary dose of self-deprecation and humour.
He shares his story alongside Wouter Deboot, a fellow West Flanders native and the author of the book Forza Lampaert, which chronicles the life story of the son of a West Flanders farmer. Wouter Deboot is also a well-known cycling reporter. For VRT 1, he created the documentaries 'Across America' (2018), 'Across Oceania' (2019) and 'With the Wind' (2023, 2025).
