Who is Stijn Derammelaere?

Stijn is able to answer pertinent questions about the jobs of the future and a world in which technology is playing an increasingly important role. He is a professor in Mechatronics at the University of Antwerp, which means he spends his days working on the latest innovations. A story that is on the cutting edge of technology, but that’s not all.

Stijn also pays attention to the social, economic and societal impact of e.g. Artificial Intelligence (AI). It has now become an inevitable part of our society, says Stijn Derammelaere: “In the area of mobility and in the medical world, AI can play a major role, for example, in diagnosing certain types of cancer. On our roads, AI is needed to develop self-driving vehicles, which could offer a solution to our current congestion problems. The flip-side to AI is its impact on the labour market and our privacy. But tales of robots that can develop their own consciousness have been wildly exaggerated.”
