Who is Steven Vromman?

Steven rose to fame with his ‘Low Impact’ project. In an award-winning documentary series on Canvas, viewers were able to follow how Steven drastically changed his lifestyle to minimise his ecological footprint. His adventure has been broadcast in more than fifty countries. He delivers a compelling story from which everyone can learn something. Drawing on a broad perspective on history and economics, he offers refreshing insights into the challenges of our time, with a strong focus on transition, resilience and the importance of collaboration.

He has since become one of the most sought-after speakers in the country and pioneered ‘eco-comedy’, an original form of infotainment. He has published eight books and is a distinctive opinion-maker in Flanders. His new book, 'Black Swans', explores possible future scenarios. Highly recommended, both for its content and its style.

  • Eco-comedy: can humour save the world?

    How can people be encouraged to experience difficult topics such as climate change and ecological disruption differently? The answer lies in eco-comedy, a successful genre developed by Steven Vromman.

    Steven explores the potential shocks that could befall us this century with the audience in an interactive way, covering topics such as viruses, artificial intelligence, meteorites and climate chaos. However, the emphasis is on building resilience. How can you prepare for the unexpected, either as an individual or as part of a community? How have difficult situations in the past given rise to unimaginable courage and solidarity? Which small-scale initiatives are helping us on the path to a liveable world?

  • The Low Impact Man Climate Show: a performance for secondary schools

    Young people are fed up with all the complaints about climate change. A different approach is needed. Enter Steven, aka the Low Impact Man, who is attempting to address the issue with his ‘eco-comedy show’. With plenty of flair, he highlights the creative ways in which we’re damaging the planet and how we can still turn things around. He holds up a critical mirror to politics, business, and technology.

    Our mission is to find the 'Greenest Person in the World' and explore the many actions that can help us. Along the way, we laugh at the exaggerated habits of Homo Consumentus, whether or not they are 'green'. Afterwards, everyone goes home realising that the future is in our hands and that, as citizens and consumers, we can play a significant role. This is a popular show in secondary schools, tailored to pupils' everyday lives. It is ideal for large groups and events focusing on sustainability or citizenship.

I attended the new eco-comedy show by Steven Vromman. I really enjoyed it! Being able to present such an important message (‘Save our planet! Start today!’) in a very accessible and never patronising manner: it's a fantastic achievement. Vromman's uncomplicated and self-mocking humour allows him to captivate the audience.
