Who is Patrick Herbots?
Few people end up behind bars, and even fewer people want to talk about what goes on behind prison walls. As a federal prosecutor, Patrick was locked up for 104 days in Vorst prison under suspicion of human trafficking and breach of privacy. Herbots claims he was completely innocent and decided to let justice run its course. However, he didn’t let it get him down and, from the very first day of his incarceration, started to observe what was going on around him. Strange but true: as a newly qualified lawyer, he had already made two failed applications to voluntarily spend some time in prison. He wanted to have first-hand experience of what it means to serve a prison sentence in our country.
He wrote his observations in a book that offers a unique insight into life inside a penitentiary. He takes you into a world about which very little information tends to be revealed. During his lecture, he provides a detailed description of the hard life behind the walls of a Belgian prison.
Patrick Herbots shared his experiences as a ‘prisoner’ in a comprehensible manner. This was certainly an enriching experience for the 75 attendees!
The lecture by Patrick Herbots went very well. We received nothing but positive comments and praise after the lecture.
