Niels Albert
Who is Niels Albert?
No rider has brought as much colour to cyclo-cross at the start of this century as Niels Albert. The two-time world champion (2009 and 2012) fought heroic battles with Sven Nys and, like no other, managed to inject excitement into the world of cyclo-cross. His cycling career was not without its setbacks, however, but no matter how often he faced misfortune, Niels Albert always fought back. Until cardiac arrhythmia forced him to hang up his bike for good in 2014 at the age of 28.
But even after that terrible news, Niels Albert reinvented himself: first as a team manager and coach, and later as an entrepreneur running a large bike shop in Tremelo.
Niels Albert is known for his no-nonsense approach: as a rider, he rarely minced his words, and that remains the case today. Niels Albert offers us a glimpse behind the scenes of both cycling and entrepreneurship, always speaking from the heart and in his own unique, down-to-earth manner, full of humour.
