  • Neighbour, what are you doing now?

The not-in-my-backyard or NIMBY-syndrome has us in a bind: projects fail or get bogged down in a trench war between citizens, businesses and governments. We all want fewer traffic jams and more open space, freedom of movement and peace... And everyone is in favour of green energy. But no one wants that wind turbine in their backyard. And all this is the neighbour's fault. But don't companies and governments too easily look down on their 'sour neighbours'? Do they see themselves enough as citizens' neighbours?

In this keynote, Joris provides tools to break the deadlock. Without miracles or miracle solutions. Because those simply don't exist. But it does help you navigate through a complex stakeholder landscape. How can you better understand and engage your environment? How do you bring calm to a discourse dominated by emotions? Is lobbying a dirty verb or does it have its place? With the key question: how do you build trust in each other's backyard?

The book is a narrative, full of examples from well-known cases and anecdotes from the professional practice of Annik Dirkx and Joris Bulteel. And enlightening, because both authors look at dealing with stakeholders through different lenses.
