Dirk Holemans
Who is Dirk Holemans?
Dirk is the driving force behind Think Tank Oikos, which focuses on the shift towards a sustainable society. And that is not a luxury but, rather, a necessity. If we desire a liveable world for our children, then we have to take a different path together now. Fortunately, we know what it takes to build an economy that respects the planet's boundaries and strives for a good life for everyone. With basic training as a bioengineer and studies in philosophy and economics, Holemans combines diverse perspectives as no other in the search for a sustainable future. As a guest lecturer, he provides insights into systems thinking and ecology, so that each of us can actively contribute to social change. As a passionate keynote speaker, he shows organisations the ecological challenges our society faces and how they can tackle them. With his wealth of experience as an academic lecturer, politician, researcher and policy adviser, he knows how to captivate every audience. In addition to books, such as Vrijheid & Zekerheid (Freedom & Security) and Het Ecologisch Kompas (The Ecological Compass), he regularly writes essays and opinion pieces for De Standaard, De Morgen, Knack and The Green European Journal. And his great love for the city in which he lives can be found in the reading and walking book, Honger naar Gent (Hunger for Ghent).
