Who is Paul Van Den Bosch?

Paul Van Den Bosch is a top sports coach and executive coach. Over his 30-year career as a top sports coach, he has worked with many elite athletes who have achieved world and European titles in various sports disciplines. As an executive coach, he focuses on improving leadership and coaching skills for both individuals and teams. An important focus is on the principles that he has successfully applied when guiding and supporting his top athletes in achieving peak performance. 
In his keynote speech, Paul Van Den Bosch shares his experience regarding the coaching qualities that result in excellent leadership; he also deals with other subjects, including resilient communication, stress as a positive motivator, the effect of a healthy lifestyle on our physical and mental wellbeing, and how strong bonds between people is needed to achieve top results. Inspired storytelling and drawing on his own experiences are key parts of his talks.

He has a Master’s in Physical Education and Movement Sciences (KULeuven), and, together with Bob Verbeeck of the sports marketing bureau, GOLAZO Sports, he set up the successful Energy Lab in 2009.
 

    Act like a Coach

    We are all, to a greater or lesser extent, a coach: whether as a parent, teacher, colleague, manager, teammate or trainer. We all have someone we would like to help improve. A good coach is not by definition the winner's coach. But the good coach manages to get the best out of the 'pupil', or more than seemed possible. A good coach doesn’t doubt whether the pupil will succeed, but rather makes sure that he does. Nowhere more than in sport is 'the best', or 'more' objectively expressed and quantified. It’s about placings, minutes, seconds, fractions of a second. A coach must therefore be able to ‘go deep', to go to the extreme in terms of motivation. Just like his athlete or team, the coach too must possess a number of distinctive success factors. Based on his long career as a coach for top athletes and as a coach in the corporate world, Paul Van Den Bosch examines in ‘Act like a Coach’ the coaching skills that can be used to achieve collective success. Talent, resilience, setting the right goals, motivation, focusing on strengths, trust, communication and feedback, stress resistance: all these factors are discussed in this contribution.

    With numerous examples and anecdotes, a clear link is regularly made between coaching in the sports world and coaching in the corporate world. ‘Act like a Coach’ offers an exciting, surprising and refreshing perspective on coaching and motivating in general.

    Egopreneur - determined to succeed

    People who are physically fit are very often mentally resilient, and people who are mentally resilient will also be physically stronger and recover faster. There is an inherent link between the physical and the mental aspect in humans. That doesn’t mean that everything is always under control. Our energy levels and feelings go up and down. There is nothing wrong with that, and we have to be able to accept dips in performance. As always, 'what goes up, must come down' and you can’t always surf on the top of the wave. But we do have to work on a daily basis to create and maintain our energy. And we’re not doing enough of that. People do everything for their work, their family, etc. They run around in circles, and they forget themselves. That lack of self-care brings problems with it.

    In 'EGOPRENEUR', Paul Van Den Bosch provides insight into how, by using the Pareto principle, you can make more time for yourself and how you can become a better and stronger 'me' through sufficient exercise, a healthy sleeping pattern and good eating habits. An 'egopreneur' who will be more productive in his or her professional environment and will be able to offer more support to those around him or her.
     

    Stress as a positive motivator

    These days, we can’t ignore the fact that the pressure in our social life is increasing all the time. For many people, this pressure is getting too much. And so stress usually has a negative connotation. But is this correct?

    In 'Stress as a positive motivator’, Paul Van Den Bosch discusses the phenomenon of stress and its impact on our daily existence. He indicates how and why stress is necessary to perform and how pressure can be approached and used in a positive way.
     

    ConneXion

    Strong managers know how to deal with the latest form of disruption in our technological society: that of leadership.     Resilient communication

    Communication, or lack of good communication, has a very great impact on the resilience of employees in a company. The individual annual interviews (evaluations) are being questioned, and the idea of the importance of frequent, informal feedback is gaining ground.

    Based on his experience in top sport, Paul Van Den Bosch focuses in 'Resilient communication' on the skills needed to provide relevant feedback and to create a trusting environment in which feedback and communication in general can be used to their full potential.
