Who is Tommy Gontie?

Tommy is an inspirational speaker who shares his story and experiences with the audience like a true stage artist, sometimes accompanied by a bit of singing and guitar.     Zero input, maximum output

    Tommy is a master in budget marketing, guerrilla marketing and no-nonsense marketing. He is the founder and lead singer of Belgian pop band Garcia Goodbye, and has attracted attention from the international press with his ingenuous marketing stunts on social and other media. The YouTube video about ‘releasing’ his own single – literally: into the air with helium-filled balloons – was shared thousands of times on Twitter and Facebook, and even Coldplay placed it on their website. A mega performance in a Brazilian football stadium was the result of an appearance on the Peter Van de Veire show, when the band wore the jersey of Brazilian team Palmeiras and dedicated their song to the Brazilian supporters.

    Tommy is able to think of techniques that allow you to put yourself in the spotlight in a creative, unique and inexpensive manner: maximising results with minimum resources. The common theme in all his actions is the use of social media and physical tools, such as helium balloons. His motto: originality beats big budgets. The scarcer the resources, the more creative people tend to be. His business model from the world of music is perfectly applicable to other domains.

    Tommy, who is the lead singer of Belgian pop group Garcia Goodbye but is mainly known for his extremely low-budget advertising hits on social and other media, takes a moment to consider the progress we are making as a society. Because not every development is necessary or desirable, he says. He adopts a unique approach to view the world today and how we are enticed by expensive high-tech gadgets, which don't necessarily make us any happier. He holds up a mirror to his audience, which is sometimes painful and sometimes funny. He calls on us to view things from another perspective and also to release our inner child. Simplicity and scarcity often lead to creativity and success. This is a principle that he has often put into practice; attracting international attention.

    In an age of nano-technology, software rollouts and security updates, there has never been more need to stop and reflect. Although progress and innovation are important for the global economy, they are not always synonymous with happiness. As a happiness fundamentalist, he likes to stop and consider the sense and nonsense of technology.

Thank you for the fantastic keynote that Tommy Gontie presented to our ACE employees. He was superb: the content was great, as were the singing and guitar, his calmness and kindness with the audience, his humour and - in particular - the magic he created in the hall. An amazing job.
