Who is Steven Vromman?

Steven gained fame through his Low Impact project. The award-winning Canvas documentary series showed Steven drastically changing his life in order to minimise his ecological footprint. His adventure was broadcast in over fifty countries. He presents an enthralling story that offers something for everyone. From a broad perspective on history and economics, he provides refreshing insights into the challenges of our time, with a focus on transition, resilience and the importance of love.

Steven is one of the most in-demand speakers in the country, having created ‘eco-comedy’, an original form of infotainment. He has published five books and is an influential commentator in Flanders. Highly recommended, both in terms of content and format.

    The end of the world - a test run: eco-comedy show

    Steven adopts an interactive approach to join the audience in looking for shocks that we may encounter this century: from viruses and Artificial Intelligence, to meteorites and climate chaos. But his emphasis is on developing resilience. How can citizens and communities prepare for the unexpected? How have difficult situations produced unimaginable courage and solidarity in the past? What small-scale initiatives can help us to realise a livable world?

    Love in times of change

    While the average person has a better standard of living than ever before, nature is suffering. If we carry on in the present way of unbridled production and consumption, there may be catastrophic consequences.
    That is why solutions are being sought in the fields of technology, politics, behaviour change and education. But not enough attention is being given to the relationship we have with one another and with nature. Steven presents a bold theorem during this lecture: perhaps love is the only thing that can save us and our climate. He uses specific examples and scientific insights to show that the climate problem is actually a problem of purpose. The planet's limitations are forcing us to consider fundamental questions, such as how do we want to live and who do we want to be? The good news is that there are answers, which can lead to a better quality of life with respect for the ecosystem on which we depend.

    The Low Impact Man climate show: a show for secondary schools

    Can humour save the world? That’s what Steven, alias the Low Impact Man, is trying to do with his ‘eco-comedy show’. He uses a degree of flair to highlight some of the creative ways in which we are ruining the world and what we can still do about it. He demands critical reflection from politicians, companies and technology.

I attended the new eco-comedy show by Steven Vromman. I really enjoyed it! Being able to present such an important message (‘Save our planet! Start today!’) in a very accessible and never patronising manner: it's a fantastic achievement. Vromman's uncomplicated and self-mocking humour allows him to captivate the audience.
